Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Angusta is a low-dose (25 µg) oral tablet formulation of misoprostol, a synthetic prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) analogue, developed specifically for the induction of labour. It was originally developed by the Danish pharmaceutical company Azanta and was subsequently acquired by Norgine in 2020. Angusta is indicated for the induction of labour in pregnant women from 37 weeks of gestation who have an unfavourable cervix. It acts as an agonist at prostaglandin EP2, EP3, and EP4 receptors, which promotes cervical ripening (softening and dilation) and stimulates uterine contractions to facilitate childbirth.
