Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Anhydrovinblastine is a semisynthetic derivative of the vinca alkaloid vinblastine, originally derived from the periwinkle plant *Catharanthus roseus*. It acts as a cell cycle-specific anti-mitotic agent by binding to tubulin and inhibiting its polymerization into microtubules, thereby disrupting mitotic spindle assembly and causing tumor cell cycle arrest in the M phase. This mechanism underlies its potential antineoplastic (anticancer) activity. Anhydrovinblastine has been investigated in clinical trials for the treatment of adult solid tumors but development was discontinued[1][2][3][4][5][6].
