anistreplase

Anistreplase is an intravenous thrombolytic and fibrinolytic biologic formerly marketed as **Eminase** for acute myocardial infarction. It is an acylated, initially inactive complex of human lysine-plasminogen and bacterial streptokinase. Following intravenous administration, hydrolysis of its p-anisoyl group releases an active plasminogen-streptokinase complex that converts circulating and clot-associated plasminogen to plasmin; plasmin then degrades fibrin within thrombi. Its relatively long circulating half-life enabled rapid bolus administration, including historical prehospital treatment of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. Major risks are systemic fibrinolysis and serious bleeding, including intracranial hemorrhage.
