Overview
Annona muricata leaf extract is a botanical product derived from the tropical plant *Annona muricata*, commonly known as graviola, soursop, or guanabana. The extract is rich in bioactive annonaceous acetogenins, most notably annonacin, which are thought to exert anticancer effects by inducing the intrinsic apoptotic pathway in malignant cells. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 open-label pilot study in Australia, sponsored by the Sydney Local Health District and Concord Repatriation General Hospital, to assess its safety and tolerability in patients with metastatic or recurrent Stage III/IV cancers who are not undergoing concurrent chemotherapy. The product used in clinical research is a commercially available dietary supplement manufactured by Swanson Health Products.
