Overview

Annona squamosa ethanolic extract (AnsTE) is a botanical extract derived from the fruits of *Annona squamosa* L., commonly known as sugar apple or custard apple. It contains a variety of bioactive compounds, primarily annonaceous acetogenins and ent-kaurane diterpenes. Research indicates that the extract possesses significant anticancer properties, demonstrating cytotoxicity against various human cancer cell lines, including cervical (HeLa), prostate (PC3), and ovarian (SKOV3) adenocarcinoma. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in the S phase. Additionally, the extract has been utilized in the biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ans-AgNPs), which exhibit enhanced antibacterial and antifungal activities. Molecular docking studies suggest potential interactions with Bcl-2 proteins, further supporting its role in promoting programmed cell death.
