Overview

ANS-858 is a proprietary, selective, reversible, and orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor of aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2), developed by Amygdala Neurosciences. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting ALDH2 in the brain’s reward pathway to reduce the dopamine surge responsible for craving and drug-seeking behavior. By targeting ALDH2, ANS-858 aims to diminish the rewarding effects associated with alcohol and other substances, thereby reducing cravings, mitigating relapse risk, and potentially alleviating anxiety related to substance use disorders. The drug is being developed primarily as a pharmacotherapy for alcohol use disorder (AUD) but also has potential applications in other substance use disorders and binge-eating.
