Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ANT-501 is a preclinical-stage nucleoside analog antiviral candidate being developed by Anterogen. It is specifically targeted toward the treatment of Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) and Herpes Zoster (shingles), caused by the Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV). As a nucleoside analog, ANT-501 is expected to function by interfering with viral DNA synthesis, typically through the inhibition of viral DNA polymerase or by acting as a chain terminator during DNA replication. This mechanism effectively halts the proliferation of the virus within the host. The drug is currently undergoing preclinical evaluation to assess its efficacy and safety profile for these viral indications.
