Antagomir-323a is a cholesterol-conjugated, chemically modified single-stranded antisense oligonucleotide that functions as a microRNA inhibitor targeting microRNA-323a-3p (miR-323a-3p). By binding to miR-323a-3p, it prevents the microRNA from suppressing its target genes, such as tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 3 (TIMP3). In preclinical studies, antagomir-323a has been shown to alleviate pressure overload-induced cardiac fibrosis, improve cardiac function, and inhibit the expression of transforming factor-beta (TGF-β). It is widely used as a research tool to study the regulatory roles of miR-323a-3p in various pathological conditions.
