**antagomiR-874-5p** is a synthetic, chemically modified antisense oligonucleotide designed to specifically inhibit the activity of the microRNA miR-874-5p. It acts by binding to miR-874-5p and preventing its function in post-transcriptional gene regulation. In preclinical research, antagomiR-874-5p has been shown to improve myogenesis (formation of muscle tissue) in senescent satellite cells (SCs) by upregulating the expression of myogenin and promoting myotube formation[1][4]. Delivery via SC-targeting extracellular vesicles and injectable hydrogel systems has been explored as a novel therapeutic strategy for sarcopenia, an age-related muscle degeneration disorder[1][4]. The primary mechanism is direct inhibition of miR-874-5p, which modulates downstream targets and cellular differentiation. The agent is being evaluated in animal models and preclinical studies and is not yet approved for clinical use.
