Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Antanil Plus is an over-the-counter (OTC) fixed-dose combination antacid and antiflatulent medication developed and marketed by Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals. It is formulated as chewable tablets and oral suspensions containing a combination of aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone. The antacid components, aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide, work synergistically to neutralize excess gastric acid, thereby relieving symptoms of heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, and hyperacidity associated with peptic ulcers, gastritis, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The combination of these two antacids balances their individual side effects on bowel motility, as aluminium hydroxide tends to cause constipation while magnesium hydroxide has a laxative effect. Simethicone, a physiologically inert surfactant, acts locally in the gastrointestinal tract to reduce the surface tension of gas bubbles, causing them to coalesce into larger bubbles that can be easily expelled, thereby relieving bloating, flatulence, and abdominal discomfort.
