Overview
Anterferon is a recombinant human interferon alpha-2b formulation developed by Anhui Anke Biotechnology for topical ophthalmic use. As a type I interferon, it binds to the interferon alpha/beta receptor (IFNAR) on the surface of target cells, activating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. This activation leads to the induction of various interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) that exhibit potent antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory activities, effectively inhibiting the replication of viruses such as herpes simplex virus (HSV). It is approved in China for the treatment of herpes simplex viral keratitis, as well as other viral ocular infections including epidemic hemorrhagic conjunctivitis and adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis.
