Overview
Anthocyanin mouthrinse is a natural product-based therapeutic formulation developed by Khon Kaen University for the management of oral inflammation associated with orthodontic treatment. The formulation contains an anthocyanin complex derived from purple waxy corn (*Zea mays L. var. ceratina Kulesh*) and blue butterfly pea petals (*Clitoria ternatea Linn.*). It functions through anti-inflammatory and wound-healing mechanisms to reduce dental plaque and gingivitis. Clinical evaluation in Phase 2/3 trials has demonstrated its efficacy in improving plaque and gingival indices compared to placebo in patients wearing orthodontic appliances, suggesting its potential as a supportive care agent in dentistry.
