Overview

Anthoxanthum odoratum pollen is an allergen extract from the pollen of the Sweet Vernal grass. It is not marketed as a standalone drug but is a key active ingredient in allergen immunotherapy (AIT) products designed to treat grass pollen allergies. Notably, it is one of five grass pollen extracts included in ORALAIR, an FDA-approved sublingual tablet for the treatment of grass pollen-induced allergic rhinitis with or without conjunctivitis. The mechanism of action is based on allergen immunotherapy, which involves administering the allergen to desensitize the immune system, thereby reducing the allergic response and the production of pollen-specific IgE antibodies. This treatment aims to induce long-term tolerance to grass pollen. [20, 21, 22, 26, 31]
