Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An anti-αvβ3 antibody is a monoclonal antibody designed to target and inhibit integrin αvβ3 (also known as the vitronectin receptor), a cell adhesion receptor composed of the alpha-V (CD51) and beta-3 (CD61) subunits. Integrin αvβ3 is highly expressed on actively proliferating endothelial cells during tumor angiogenesis, osteoclasts, and certain tumor cells, as well as in injured kidney tubules during acute kidney injury (AKI). By binding to integrin αvβ3, these antibodies block its interaction with extracellular matrix ligands such as vitronectin, fibronectin, and osteopontin, thereby inhibiting angiogenesis, tumor growth, metastasis, and tissue fibrosis. Historically, anti-αvβ3 antibodies like etaracizumab (Abegrin) were evaluated in clinical trials for oncology indications, and preclinical research continues to explore their therapeutic potential in inflammatory, fibrotic, and ischemic diseases, including the prevention of AKI-to-CKD progression.
