Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An anti-activin A monoclonal antibody is a therapeutic agent designed to target and neutralize activin A, a member of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) superfamily. Activin A plays a critical role in regulating cellular differentiation, proliferation, and tissue remodeling. In pathological states, aberrant activin A signaling is implicated in conditions such as fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP), where it drives abnormal heterotopic ossification, as well as muscle wasting, cachexia, and chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD). By binding to activin A, these monoclonal antibodies prevent its interaction with type I and type II activin receptors, thereby inhibiting downstream SMAD2/3 signaling pathways.
