Overview

Anti-annexin II antibody (also known as anti-annexin A2 antibody) refers to a class of monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies that target annexin II (annexin A2), a calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein. Annexin II is expressed on the surface of various cells, including endothelial cells and invasive cancer cells (such as breast and ovarian cancer cells), where it acts as a co-receptor for tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and plasminogen, facilitating plasmin generation and promoting neoangiogenesis, tumor growth, and metastasis. In preclinical studies, anti-annexin II antibodies have demonstrated the ability to inhibit tumor growth and angiogenesis by blocking plasmin generation and inducing endothelial cell apoptosis. Additionally, specific candidates like mAb 2448 have been developed to target unique glycan epitopes on annexin II for potential oncological applications.
