Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Anti-ASC nanobody-based heavy chain antibody is a preclinical-stage biologic being developed for the treatment of antibody-mediated autoimmune kidney diseases, such as membranous nephropathy. Developed by researchers at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, this therapeutic candidate consists of nanobody-based heavy chain antibodies (hcAbs) targeting a novel surface protein highly expressed on antibody-secreting cells (ASCs). By binding to this specific target, the hcAbs mediate potent cellular lysis of plasma and myeloma cells, leading to the depletion of pathogenic ASCs in the bone marrow and spleen. In preclinical models of experimental autoimmune membranous nephropathy (EAMN), treatment with these hcAbs significantly reduced antigen-specific antibody levels, decreased podocyte damage, and improved clinical outcomes.
