Anti-AuND is an antibody-functionalized gold nanodye (AuND) designed for multimodal imaging, specifically targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). The construct consists of gold nanospheres (AuNSs) conjugated with the near-infrared (NIR) fluorophore IRDye 800 NHS ester via polyethylene glycol (PEG) linkers and functionalized with anti-EGFR antibodies. This design leverages the high X-ray attenuation of gold for computed tomography (CT) contrast and the fluorescence properties of IRDye 800 for NIR and fluorescence lifetime (FLT) imaging. The gold nanospheres also enhance the fluorescence emission through plasmonic interactions. Anti-AuND is primarily investigated for high-sensitivity, high-resolution tumor visualization in EGFR-overexpressing cancers, such as head and neck cancer, in preclinical research settings.
