Anti-BAFFR CART is an investigational chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by Tianjin Medical University General Hospital for the treatment of relapsed or refractory neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). The therapy involves genetically engineering a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that specifically targets the B-cell activating factor receptor (BAFFR), which is expressed on the surface of B cells. By targeting BAFFR, the CAR-T cells identify and eliminate the B-cell populations responsible for producing pathogenic antibodies, such as AQP4-IgG, thereby reducing the autoimmune inflammation and neural damage associated with NMOSD. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials for patients who have not responded to conventional treatments.
