Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An anti-Basigin monoclonal antibody is a therapeutic antibody designed to target Basigin (also known as CD147 or EMMPRIN), a transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily. Basigin is widely expressed on various cell types and is upregulated in multiple pathological conditions, including cancers, inflammatory diseases, and viral infections (such as COVID-19), as well as playing a critical role in malaria parasite (Plasmodium falciparum) invasion of erythrocytes. By binding to Basigin, these monoclonal antibodies block its interactions with partner proteins (such as monocarboxylate transporters, integrins, and PfRH5), thereby inhibiting tumor progression, metastasis, inflammatory signaling, or pathogen entry. Preclinical and clinical-stage candidates in this class include meplazumab, metuzumab, and DS-1471.
