Anti-BCMA CAR-T cell therapy is a form of adoptive cell immunotherapy where a patient's T cells are genetically modified to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) specific for the B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA). BCMA is a protein predominantly expressed on the surface of mature B lymphocytes and plasma cells, and it is highly overexpressed in multiple myeloma. Upon infusion, these engineered T cells recognize BCMA-expressing cells, leading to T-cell activation, proliferation, and the targeted destruction of malignant plasma cells. This therapeutic approach has demonstrated significant efficacy in patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, leading to the regulatory approval of several specific CAR-T products such as idecabtagene vicleucel and ciltacabtagene autoleucel.
