Overview

Anti-BCMA universal CAR-T is a chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy engineered to target B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), also known as TNF receptor superfamily 17 (TNFRSF17). BCMA is highly expressed on malignant plasma cells in multiple myeloma. Universal or "off-the-shelf" versions of these therapies are typically derived from healthy donors rather than the patient themselves, allowing for allogeneic use. The mechanism involves genetically modifying T cells to express a synthetic receptor that recognizes and binds to BCMA on tumor cells, leading to targeted cytotoxicity against these cancerous cells. This approach aims to overcome limitations of autologous therapies such as manufacturing time and variability in T cell quality[2][4]. Anti-BCMA universal CAR-T therapies are primarily being developed for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma.
