Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The anti-Bma-LAD-2 antibody is a preclinical-stage therapeutic antibody being developed by the Uniformed Services University (USU) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for the treatment of lymphatic filariasis. The antibody targets Bma-LAD-2 (Brugia malayi L1 cell adhesion molecule-like protein 2, also known as immunoglobulin I-set domain containing protein), an essential intestinal cell adhesion protein located at the apical junction of the intestinal tract of Brugia malayi adult worms. By binding to Bma-LAD-2, the antibody disrupts the tight junctions of the filarial intestinal tract, leading to loss of pseudocoelomic fluid, decreased worm motility, reduced metabolism, and increased release of microfilariae and eggs, ultimately acting as a macrofilaricidal agent.
