Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An anti-C2 monoclonal antibody is a therapeutic agent designed to target complement component C2, a key protein at the intersection of the classical and lectin complement pathways. By binding to C2, these antibodies selectively inhibit classical and lectin pathway activation while leaving the alternative complement pathway intact, thereby preserving essential innate antimicrobial defense mechanisms. This class of therapeutics is primarily being developed to treat complement-mediated autoimmune and inflammatory disorders, such as multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN), chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), and delayed graft function (DGF) following kidney transplantation. A prominent clinical-stage candidate in this class is argenx's empasiprubart (ARGX-117).
