This is a bispecific antibody designed for pretargeting strategies in cancer diagnosis and therapy. One arm targets Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA), a tumor-associated antigen overexpressed in various cancers like colorectal, breast, lung, and pancreatic cancers. The other arm targets diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), a chelating agent. DTPA is used to bind radionuclides (e.g., Indium-111, Technetium-99m, Rhenium-188, Yttrium-90). This two-step approach involves first administering the bispecific antibody, which localizes to CEA-expressing tumor cells. Subsequently, a radiolabeled DTPA-peptide (hapten) is injected, which binds to the DTPA-specific arm of the antibody already at the tumor site. This strategy aims to deliver a high dose of radioactivity specifically to tumor cells while minimizing systemic exposure and toxicity to normal tissues, making it suitable for radioimmunoscintigraphy (imaging) and radioimmunotherapy.
