Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An anti-CCL2 antibody is a monoclonal antibody designed to target and neutralize C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2), also known as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1). CCL2 is a key chemokine involved in the recruitment of monocytes, macrophages, and other immune cells to sites of inflammation and tumors. By blocking the interaction between CCL2 and its primary receptor, CCR2, these antibodies aim to inhibit macrophage-mediated inflammation, tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) recruitment, and subsequent tumor growth, metastasis, and angiogenesis. Clinical-stage candidates targeting this pathway, such as carlumab (CNTO 888) and ABN912, have been investigated for various solid tumors, rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions, though challenges such as compensatory chemokine upregulation have been observed.
