Anti-CD133 scFv-Fc nanoparticles are an experimental, targeted drug delivery system consisting of poly(L-lactide)-PEG-maleimide polymeric nanoparticles conjugated with an anti-CD133 single-chain variable fragment fused to an Fc region (scFv-Fc). These nanoparticles are loaded with a hydrophobic, hydrolytically labile silicate prodrug of paclitaxel as the active payload. The system is designed to target CD133 (Prominin-1), a surface marker highly expressed on cancer stem cells (CSCs) in solid tumors, including colorectal, brain, and breast cancers. By selectively binding to CD133+ cells, the nanoparticles deliver paclitaxel directly to the drug-resistant CSC population, aiming to overcome resistance and prevent tumor recurrence. This academic research compound was developed by researchers at the University of Minnesota.
