Overview

anti-CD138-IFNα2 fusion protein is a masked immunocytokine being developed by Qwixel Therapeutics for the treatment of CD138-positive malignancies, including multiple myeloma and ovarian cancer. The molecule consists of an anti-CD138 (Syndecan-1) monoclonal antibody fused to interferon alpha-2 (IFNα2), featuring a tumor-selectively cleaved peptide mask. This masking technology is designed to prevent the IFNα2 payload from binding to its receptors (IFNAR) in systemic circulation, thereby minimizing the dose-limiting toxicities typically associated with recombinant interferon therapies. Upon reaching the tumor microenvironment, the mask is cleaved by tumor-associated proteases, releasing active IFNα2 to exert direct anti-proliferative effects on tumor cells and stimulate a localized immune response.
