Anti-CD19 CAR-T cells represent a class of adoptive cell therapy where T lymphocytes are genetically engineered to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) specifically designed to recognize and bind to the CD19 protein. CD19 is a cell surface antigen found on B-lineage cells, including malignant B cells in various lymphomas and leukemias, as well as normal B cells. Upon infusion into a patient, these modified T cells target and eliminate CD19-positive cells, leading to B cell aplasia. This mechanism is leveraged for the treatment of relapsed or refractory B-cell malignancies and is also being explored for autoimmune diseases where B cells play a pathogenic role.
