Overview

This investigational anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is being developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University for the treatment of various refractory autoimmune diseases. The therapy utilizes genetically engineered T cells (either autologous or allogeneic) modified to express a CAR that specifically targets CD19, a surface marker found on B cells. By binding to CD19, the CAR-T cells induce the depletion of pathogenic B cells, aiming to 'reset' the immune system and achieve long-term remission in patients with conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren's syndrome, and systemic sclerosis. It is currently being evaluated in an investigator-initiated early Phase 1 clinical trial.
