Overview

Anti-CD19 mRNA lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) represent an innovative therapeutic platform designed to deliver messenger RNA encoding anti-CD19 antibodies or chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) directly into cells in vivo. By encapsulating the mRNA in lipid nanoparticles, the genetic material is protected from enzymatic degradation and efficiently delivered to target cells, where it is translated to produce functional anti-CD19 proteins. This approach is being investigated for the transient depletion of CD19-positive B cells and plasma cells, offering a promising strategy for resetting the humoral immune system in autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), as well as for treating B-cell malignancies without the need for ex vivo cell manipulation.
