Overview

Anti-CD229 monoclonal antibody is an experimental therapeutic agent designed to target CD229 (also known as SLAMF3 or Ly9), a cell surface receptor belonging to the Signaling Lymphocytic Activation Molecule (SLAM) family. CD229 is highly and uniformly expressed on the surface of multiple myeloma (MM) cells and their precursors, while being largely absent from most healthy human tissues, making it a promising target for immunotherapy. The antibody works by binding to CD229 on malignant cells, facilitating tumor cell death through mechanisms such as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) or complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC). Preclinical research indicates that CD229 promotes the survival of myeloma cells and that its inhibition or silencing can increase the susceptibility of these cells to conventional chemotherapy.
