Overview

anti-CD36 is a monoclonal antibody in preclinical development by the Unidad de Desarrollo e Investigación en Bioprocesos (UDIBI) of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN). The antibody targets CD36 (also known as fatty acid translocase or platelet glycoprotein 4), a multifunctional membrane protein that acts as a scavenger receptor for various ligands, including long-chain fatty acids and oxidized low-density lipoproteins. CD36 is expressed on several cell types, such as macrophages, adipocytes, and endothelial cells, and is implicated in the pathogenesis of metabolic disorders, atherosclerosis, and chronic inflammation. In oncology, CD36 has gained attention as a critical driver of metastasis, as it enables cancer cells to utilize exogenous lipids to fuel their spread. The UDIBI-IPN program aims to inhibit these CD36-mediated pathways, although specific therapeutic indications have not yet been disclosed by the developer.
