**anti-CD44-IR700** is an antibody–drug conjugate composed of a monoclonal antibody against human/mouse CD44 (typically clone IM7) covalently linked to the near-infrared (NIR) photoabsorber IRDye700DX (IR700). It serves as the active agent for near-infrared photoimmunotherapy (NIR-PIT), a cancer treatment that combines antigen-targeted antibodies with a photo-activatable dye. After intravenous or intratumoral administration, the conjugate binds to CD44-expressing tumor cells. Upon targeted NIR light exposure, the IR700 moiety induces cell membrane damage, leading to rapid necrotic cell death specifically in CD44+ cells. This approach enables highly selective ablation of cancer cells expressing the CD44 antigen, widely implicated in tumor initiation, metastasis, and resistance, including cancer stem cell populations. The agent is primarily being investigated in preclinical cancer models (e.g., lung cancer, head and neck cancer, triple-negative breast cancer)[1][3][6].
