Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An **anti-CD71 antibody** is a monoclonal antibody designed to target CD71, also known as transferrin receptor 1 (TfR1). CD71 is a membrane glycoprotein that plays a critical role in cellular iron uptake via the endocytosis of iron-bound transferrin. Because rapidly proliferating cells, such as cancer cells, have high iron requirements, CD71 is frequently overexpressed in various hematologic and solid malignancies. Anti-CD71 antibodies can inhibit cell proliferation by blocking iron import or can be utilized as targeting moieties in antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and Probody-drug conjugates (PDCs), such as CX-2029 and INA03, to deliver cytotoxic payloads directly to tumor cells. Additionally, anti-CD71 antibodies are used in preclinical research to investigate iron metabolism, erythropoiesis, and tissue regeneration, including localized bone marrow erythropoiesis and oxygen regulation during fracture healing [1].
