An anti-CD8 monoclonal antibody (anti-CD8 mAb) is a type of monoclonal antibody designed to specifically bind to the CD8 glycoprotein, which is primarily expressed on the surface of cytotoxic T cells. In preclinical research, anti-CD8 mAbs are widely utilized as experimental reagents to deplete CD8+ T cells or block their activity, allowing researchers to investigate the role of these cells in tumor immunity, autoimmune diseases, and transplant rejection. In clinical settings, therapeutic anti-CD8 mAbs and their derivatives (such as minibodies or radiolabeled constructs) are being developed for immuno-PET imaging to visualize tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, or as immunosuppressive therapies to mitigate tissue damage in conditions characterized by excessive cytotoxic T-cell activity, such as myocarditis or acute myocardial infarction.
