Overview

anti-CEA-Alexa 488 is a fluorescently labeled monoclonal antibody conjugate designed for fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS). It consists of a monoclonal antibody specific for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) covalently linked to the Alexa Fluor 488 fluorophore. CEA is a cell-surface glycoprotein that is overexpressed in several solid tumors, including pancreatic and colorectal cancers. By binding to CEA-expressing cells, the conjugate allows for the real-time identification and localization of primary tumors and sub-millimeter metastatic lesions using fluorescence laparoscopy. This technology is intended to assist surgeons in achieving complete tumor resection and identifying margins that are not visible under standard bright-light conditions. The agent has been primarily investigated in preclinical orthotopic mouse models of human pancreatic cancer by OncoFluor and researchers at the University of California San Diego.
