Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Anti-CelTOS monoclonal antibodies are preclinical-stage therapeutic candidates being investigated for the prevention and transmission-blocking of malaria. These antibodies target the cell-traversal protein for ookinetes and sporozoites (CelTOS), a highly conserved antigen across *Plasmodium* species that is essential for parasite cell traversal in both the mammalian host and the mosquito vector. Developed by researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the University of South Florida (USF), specific monoclonal antibodies such as 7g7 and 4h12 have demonstrated multistage, cross-species sterile protection. They inhibit CelTOS-mediated pore formation and membrane disruption, thereby preventing liver infection in the host and blocking parasite transmission to mosquitoes.
