Overview

Anti-CHIKV hyperimmune immunoglobulins are polyclonal antibody preparations derived from the plasma of individuals with high titers of antibodies against chikungunya virus (CHIKV). These preparations contain a broad spectrum of neutralizing antibodies targeting multiple epitopes on the CHIKV envelope proteins. The mechanism of action involves direct neutralization of the virus and engagement of Fc gamma receptors (FcγR) on immune cells, leading to enhanced Fc-effector functions such as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity and phagocytosis. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that these immunoglobulins can reduce viral load and provide protection in animal models when administered post-exposure[1][4][8]. They are being investigated for both prophylactic and therapeutic use in chikungunya virus infection.
