Anti-COVID-19 immune globulin is a plasma-derived, concentrated *hyperimmune immunoglobulin* containing high levels of SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies, produced from the plasma of individuals who have recovered from COVID-19[1][3][8]. It is intended for *passive immunization* and treatment of COVID-19 by providing immediate antiviral neutralizing antibodies to help suppress viral replication and support the immune system[^1][3][5][8]. The mechanism of action is direct neutralization of SARS-CoV-2 via infused antibodies, targeting multiple viral epitopes[3][8]. It is developed for use in hospitalized or high-risk COVID-19 patients, as well as for post-exposure prophylaxis[1][4][5]. Developers and trial sponsors include Emergent BioSolutions, Grifols, CSL Behring, Takeda, and Dow University of Health Sciences, and government bodies such as NIAID/NIH and BARDA[1][2][5]. Clinical trials have shown safety and some evidence of efficacy in immunosuppressed animal models and patients, but large studies in hospitalized immunocompetent adults showed no benefit over standard care; further trials are ongoing or planned for other populations[2][3][4][5][6][7]. Production uses standard immunoglobulin purification and pathogen inactivation processes[3][8].
