Anti-COVID-19 intravenous immunoglobulin (C-IVIG) is a hyperimmune biologic therapy developed by the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) for the treatment of severe and critical COVID-19. It is composed of purified polyclonal antibodies (immunoglobulins) derived from the pooled convalescent plasma of donors who have recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection. The manufacturing process utilizes a modified caprylic acid precipitation technique followed by ultrafiltration and diafiltration, resulting in a product with approximately three times the concentration of neutralizing antibodies compared to the source plasma. C-IVIG works through passive immunization, providing immediate neutralizing activity against the SARS-CoV-2 virus to mitigate viral lung injury, cytokine storm, and sepsis in hospitalized patients.
