**Anti-dopamine-transporter-saporin** is a targeted immunotoxin consisting of a rat monoclonal antibody directed against the extracellular domain of the dopamine transporter (DAT) chemically conjugated to saporin, a ribosome-inactivating protein derived from *Saponaria officinalis*. This reagent is used in research settings to selectively ablate dopaminergic neurons expressing DAT, primarily in animal models of neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. Upon binding to DAT on the cell surface, the antibody-toxin complex is internalized, where saporin inactivates ribosomes, halting protein synthesis and causing cell death. This targeted approach allows for selective lesioning of dopaminergic neuronal populations, thereby enabling specific mechanistic studies of diseases involving dopaminergic systems[1][3][4][5].
