An anti-E. coli phage cocktail is a therapeutic preparation containing a mixture of several different bacteriophages (viruses that infect and kill bacteria) specifically chosen for their ability to target and destroy various strains of *Escherichia coli*. [2, 5, 7] This approach, a form of phage therapy, is being developed as an alternative or supplement to traditional antibiotics, particularly for treating infections caused by multidrug-resistant *E. coli*. [5, 7, 16] The key advantage of a phage cocktail is its high specificity; it can eliminate pathogenic *E. coli* without harming beneficial bacteria in the host's microbiome, such as the gut flora. [1, 2, 7] This specificity also reduces the side effects commonly associated with broad-spectrum antibiotics. [5] By combining multiple phages, a cocktail can target a wider range of bacterial strains and may help to prevent the emergence of phage-resistant bacteria. [24] Some advanced cocktails, like LBP-EC01 and SNIPR001, are engineered using CRISPR-Cas technology to enhance their bacterial-killing efficacy. [3, 10, 13] Anti-E. coli phage cocktails are under investigation for various indications, including urinary tract infections (UTIs), Crohn's disease, and food safety applications. [3, 6, 20]
