Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Thabor Therapeutics is developing a first-in-class monoclonal antibody targeting extracellular AGR2 (eAGR2) for the treatment of mucosal inflammatory diseases (MIDs), with a primary focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). AGR2 is typically an endoplasmic reticulum-resident protein involved in protein folding; however, under pathological conditions, it is abnormally secreted into the extracellular space where it exerts pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic effects. By neutralizing eAGR2, this therapeutic antibody aims to restore epithelial homeostasis, inhibit inflammation, prevent or reverse fibrosis, and correct epithelial barrier dysfunction. The program is currently in preclinical development, with potential applications extending to pulmonary and genitourinary mucosal inflammatory conditions. The company, an INSERM spin-off, secured funding in 2022 to accelerate R&D and prepare for an Investigational New Drug (IND) application.
