Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Anti-EGFR immunoliposomes loaded with doxorubicin (anti-EGFR-IL-dox) is an investigational targeted drug delivery system designed to treat EGFR-overexpressing malignancies, particularly triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). The formulation consists of pegylated liposomes containing doxorubicin, which are surface-conjugated with anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody fragments (typically Fab'). This targeting moiety facilitates binding to the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) on tumor cells, promoting receptor-mediated endocytosis and subsequent intracellular release of the cytotoxic payload. This approach aims to enhance the therapeutic index of doxorubicin by increasing intratumoral drug concentration while minimizing systemic exposure and associated cardiotoxicity.
