The anti-EMP2 diabody is a recombinant, bivalent antibody fragment (diabody) designed to target the second extracellular loop of Epithelial Membrane Protein 2 (EMP2). Developed primarily within academic laboratories at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), this biologic research compound has demonstrated therapeutic potential across multiple disease models. In oncology, particularly glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the diabody induces apoptosis and inhibits tumor growth by modulating integrin signaling and stabilizing the focal adhesion kinase (FAK) complex. Beyond cancer, it has been investigated for its ability to reduce bacterial load and inflammation in genital Chlamydia trachomatis infections and to inhibit collagen gel contraction in retinal pigment epithelial cells, suggesting applications in ophthalmology.
