Overview

The anti-endotrophin monoclonal antibody is a preclinical-stage biologic research compound developed by the University of Texas System (specifically UT Southwestern Medical Center, with inventor Philipp E. Scherer) that targets endotrophin (ETP), a pro-fibrotic and pro-inflammatory cleavage product of the C5 domain of the alpha3 chain of collagen VI (COL6A3). By neutralizing endotrophin, the antibody aims to reverse epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), reduce tissue fibrosis, and inhibit tumor angiogenesis and metastasis. It has been investigated in preclinical models for its potential to overcome treatment resistance in breast cancer (particularly when combined with platinum-based chemotherapies like cisplatin or endocrine therapies), as well as for treating chronic fibroinflammatory conditions such as renal fibrosis, diabetic nephropathy, fatty liver disease, and adipose tissue fibrosis, while also improving insulin sensitivity.
