**anti-EpCAM-UPGs-MX** is an experimental EpCAM-targeted theranostic nanomedicine developed for **hepatocellular carcinoma**. It consists of PEGylated upconversion nanoparticle-based micelles carrying the antineoplastic and photosensitizing agent **mitoxantrone**, with an anti-EpCAM antibody grafted to the micelle surface to promote delivery to EpCAM-positive hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Following intravenous administration in preclinical models, the formulation supported magnetic resonance and upconversion-luminescence imaging while producing combined mitoxantrone-mediated chemotherapy and photodynamic therapy after optical activation. The published work reported improved tumor-targeted imaging and antitumor activity relative to non-targeted comparator micelles.
