Overview

"Anti-FGF2 neutralizing antibody" is a generic term for a class of monoclonal antibodies that bind to and inhibit the activity of Fibroblast Growth Factor 2 (FGF2), also known as basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF). FGF2 is a potent mitogen and angiogenic factor that plays a significant role in cell proliferation, survival, and the formation of new blood vessels. In many cancers, including melanoma, FGF2 is overexpressed and contributes to tumor progression, invasion, and resistance to therapy by activating fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs). By neutralizing FGF2, these antibodies block its interaction with FGFRs, thereby inhibiting downstream signaling pathways such as MAPK/ERK and PI3K/AKT. Several clones, such as 3F12E7, bFM-1, and 1B9B9, have been developed for use in preclinical research to study the role of FGF2 in oncology and bone diseases. As of current records, no specific therapeutic candidate under this generic name has entered clinical development, and these antibodies are primarily utilized as research-use-only (RUO) reagents.
