Anti-gp120 CAR-T is an investigational chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy being developed for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. Developed by Kunming Third People’s Hospital, this therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's T cells to express a CAR that specifically recognizes the gp120 envelope glycoprotein of HIV-1. The gp120 protein is essential for viral entry into host cells and is expressed on the surface of infected cells during active viral replication. By targeting this protein, the CAR-T cells are designed to selectively identify and destroy HIV-infected cells, potentially offering a way to reduce or eliminate the latent viral reservoir that persists despite antiretroviral therapy (ART). Clinical evaluation has primarily focused on safety and the ability of these cells to persist and function in HIV-positive individuals.
